One of my counselors has 5 girls, ages barely 3 to 14, and a husband who is the High Priest Group Leader and thus must be at church early for meetings almost every Sunday. She semi-frequently shares tales of Sabbath mornings at their house that make me, at least momentarily, supremely grateful to be single and childless. This morning, one glance at her face was enough to know that today was another one of those days....
They live in Hominy, roughly a 30 minute drive from church, so it's not like they can run home for "forgotten" items. And as she's unloading them from the suburban she discovers that the 9 year old is wearing these rubber overboots (intended for wearing when they work in the muck at their ranch) with no church shoes underneath, and the 7 year old isn't wearing any shoes at all. Apparently, mothers of 7 year olds should know better than to say "Get in the car RIGHT NOW" without first looking at said child's feet to be sure they are shod. And the 9 year old is now embarrassed about her footwear, which she selected herself, and refusing to go in to Sacrament meeting because people will see. So she ended up sitting in the foyer with them for all of Sacrament meeting.
On a positive note, this did mean that no one saw when the 3 year old insisted on holding up her dress and sticking a hand in the waistband of her undies because "they won't stop itching!"

The'Joys of Motherhood' are not as joyful on some occasions as on others. The trick is to be able to smile about it later. Even if your face threatens to break! gram
