Wendy: Two years ago, I was just beginning the adventure of writing my dissertation. The beast is finally complete. It would have consumed my life entirely, had I not had teaching and a calling in young women to balance things out. And now that this, my grandest of accomplishments, my monument to pushing through a million moments of despair, has joined its fellows on the dusty shelves, I move on to a life in academia. May I be as positively influential in the lives of my students as the many teachers and professors who encouraged me on, and may I never become so complacent, or so bitter, or so tenured, that these students become anything other than my top priority.
